Coincidence

21 years ago today, one unbeknownst to the other, Dad was buying a Chevy S-10 pickup in Alice, Texas and I was in a dealership in Kingsville, Texas buying an Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. When each respective finance officer was figuring the details Dad's and my records crossed paths in the network. The guy across the desk from me in Kingsville stopped for a second and looked up from his screen monitor, turned to me and asked, "Mr. Salas, you're not 65 years old, are you?" What a coincidence, same day, same financing.

I thought about that just now sitting in the lounge of the Kanto Lodge at Yokota AFB. They have wireless Internet here. Melba finishes up her workshop today a noon and we are going to start our weekend from here. There's a tour up to the lower 5th Station on Mt. Fuji on Sunday. We'll be on it. I thought about that day long ago because sitting here I can see our 13-year-old Nissan March parked in the guest parking lot. ¡Como cambian las cosas! We purchased it cash for $1,750; that included tax, title, license, inspection, and insurance for two years. I have to wonder what our thought processes were in October of 1987 when we purchased a new Cutlass Supreme for God know how much and financed for what was probably five years. Crazy. Today we are in a little used car y estamos tan contentos.
