Yokota Air Force Base is home to the 374th Airlift Wing. It serves as the only airlift wing in the Far East. The wing provides airlift support to all Department of Defense agencies in the Pacific theater of operations. Yokota provides transport for people and equipment throughout the Kanto Plain and the Tokyo metropolitan area. It is a busy place. While Melba was at her workshop yesterday I spent a good part of the morning watching huge Lockheed C-130s Hercules crisscross the airspace over the field like teenagers cruising the main drag on a Saturday night. After a couple of hours of this I quit paying attention, but it is an extraordinary thing to watch.

Today, the officers' wives on Yokota are sponsoring the YOSC Fall Bazaar. It is being held in one of the hangers. Ronda, acting in her role as the wife of U.S. Air Force Major Rene Saenz, volunteered for a three-hour shift inside the huge Quonset-hut structure. She was one of the money handlers All the proceeds go to benefit the Yokota community. Melba and I spent a good while there and even I could not resist picking up some unique items as gifts for some lucky people back home.
