Off in the Distance

What a magnificent view from our window! Fifty miles to the west from Yokosuka Mount Fuji made an appearance this morning. Most of the time that we have been here the mountain could not be seen because of the haze in the atmosphere. It would completely obscure it. After two brutal days the weather turned for the better and gave us a perfect autumn day.

What's unfortunate about this day is that for us a view like this will only be possible for another 33 days. On December 17th Melba and I board a flight back to the States and that will mark the end of our sojourn in this wonderful country, Japan. Yesterday, Melba tendered her resignation from D.O.D.D.S. Apparently, working at an overseas school, far removed from family, friends, and familiar surroundings proved more than she was willing to shoulder. Off in the distance old South Texas is beckoning. We are going home after nearly four months in this beautiful and alluring corner a través del Pacifico.
